in Weymouth
For the adrenaline junkies, Dorset Adventure Park provides an action packed day out! Featuring a waterpark and mud trail, the waterpark is spread over two lakes, each with different obstacles to conquer. The mud trail is 2km long and has 50 obstacles, fun in the sun but even more of a blast on a rainy day when you don’t want to be trapped inside. For those who want a quieter day, the waterpark is located on the grounds of Corfe Castle, so you can explore the ruins and enjoy a drink in the 18th-century tearoom.

A little history
Thomas Hardy enthusiasts
Lorton House is perfectly suited for a bit, indeed a lot, of Thomas Hardy touring. As a young man, Hardy was apprenticed to the architect John Hicks of Dorchester and was undoubtedly involved in the design of Lorton House. On the outskirts of Budmouth (Weymouth), Casterbridge (Dorchester) is just 20 minutes away for visiting Max Gate, Hardy’s home, where he wrote The Mayor of Casterbridge (1886), Tess of the D’Urbevilles (1891) and Jude the Obscure 1895).
Local Nature
Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre & Nature Reserve
The Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Lorton Valley borders the grounds of Lorton House, with many acres of footpaths through nature reserves and beyond this, the Lodmoor RSPB reserve. Explore on foot, or via cycle path, this grassland with stunning views out to the sea.
